Protein Blend

Quest has included the same two forms of protein in the Beyond Cereal Bar as it did in their flagship Quest Bars — Milk Protein Isolate and Whey Protein Isolate. Incorporating isolate proteins is perfect for those who often deal with assorted digestive issues from the high lactose content in whey concentrate.

Using both milk and whey isolates provide a good “middle ground” in terms of protein content and taste / texture of the bar, so it has a little bit more “fulfilling” or “rich-tasting” chew when eaten.

  • Allulose

Here’s the key ingredient to Quest’s new bars — Allulose.

Allulose, more commonly known as Psicose, is a truly unique natural sweetener that offers the same taste and texture of traditional sugar, contains 70% the sweetness of sucrose but packs only 1/10th of the calories!  It can be found in relatively small amounts in raisins, figs, and jackfruit, among others.

Studies using allulose note that it’s highly soluble as well as can improve gelling in certain food products.[1,2] The FDA listed Allulose as a generally recognized as safe (GRAS) product and has approved its use in a wide variety of products, including these cereal bars![3]

  • But here’s where people might get confused:The FDA requires it to be listed in the sugar section of the nutrition facts panel, even though it doesn’t have the calories of regular sugar! So try not to freak out if you look at a Quest product and see 8g of “sugar”.Just remember, allulose isn’t like other sugars. It doesn’t have the calories or side effects you’d expect from regular sugar. Think of it as a low-calorie sweetener instead.— Quest Nutrition
